PRE COURSE SELF ASSESSMENT

Generally speaking of all the people who are anxious about flying most people fall into one of two main groups. They are monitors and blunters. The first group want to find out about things…and that’s probably you, because you’re coming on this course and the other groupĀ  who, not unreasonably just want to fly and know nothing at all about the hows and whys of what’s happening …they just want to do it with the minimum fuss as they see it.

It’s not essential to know exactly what has caused your fear of flying, it might helpĀ  if you start to organise your thoughts about how you feel about flying.

One of the ways of organising your thoughts is to write them down so we have prepared this list of questions which should help you to get started. If you print it off and fill it in and bring it with you on the day of the course it will ensure that we cover everything you need.

To help you get the maximum benefit from the day, answer these questions as honestly as you can.

Even if you don’t want to bring this along on the day it will help you to focus.

  1. How long have you been nervous about flying?
  2. List in descending order of importance the things that cause you anxiety when flying.
  3. What is your biggest fear when flying?
  4. Do you have any associated fears?
  5. What do you think caused it?
  6. What have you done about your fear?
  7. How has your fear impacted on your life?
  8. How do you rate the likelihood of overcoming it?
  9. Do you have a supporter?
  10. If you could draw a picture, what would your fear look like?
  11. If you could describe your fear in two sentences, how would it sound?
  12. What are the benefits of overcoming your fear?
  13. How do you express your fear?
  14. What are your expectations for the future?
  15. How do you hope this course will help?
  16. Has anything happened on a plane which started your fear?
  17. Are you claustrophobic?
  18. Are you generally of a nervous disposition?
  19. Do you find it hard to hand over control?
  20. Do you understand the difference between being hopeful and being realistic?

We will give you a booklet on the day which will explain everything that’s likely to come up for discussion on the day which will be yours to us eas a note book and a reminder of the course.

When you board the plane you will hear the sounds of boarding that you will hear whenever you board an aircraft. You make take which ever seat suits you and we suggest that just to make it as realistic as possible that you secure your seat belt. As you might expect we’ll start the flight with a safety briefing anf then we’ll set of on a journey that will change your life.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

We will not expose you to anything at all that could make your worries worse. There are no hidden surprises and nothing will increase your anxiety.

We promise to make your day an enjoyable one so that you’ll have happy mempories of the experience.
