Airline crews are the best trained of any group of working people in the world. Everyone who joins the industry will undergo rigourous training. Pilots undergo at least two years training and even the most junior jobs are regulated by the  government and airlines.

From a nervous passengers point of view this should give you confidence in the industry as whole.

The training that aircrew  are involved in is not purely technical, much of their training is now involving the soft skills normally called human factors training. The technical levels of skill and competence are taken as read.
